News for Immediate Release

No Scandal from the Huckabee Campaign

On Thursday January 17th 2008 the Huckabee campaign offered favors to the Sociology 118 class in the form of Reese’s and Twix. This was not a bribe. It was a way of communicating that the Huckabee campaign cares about the people and wants to be on good terms with competitors.
Drew Halfmann, Secretary of State of California, stated that he was not accepting bribes. It was also strongly implied that he enjoyed his Huckabee endorsed Reese’s peanut butter cup. The allegations of foul play are misguided. Huckabee is a woman of principle and does not engage in bribery, nor does she need to with such a strong slate.

The candy seemed to be from Mars Inc. The NY Times has presumed the candies was part of a campaign donation from the candy corporation. Also, the candy contradicts the reiterated message that the Huckabee camp promotes good helath. Candy from a corrupt corporation manufactured in the cheapest means possible while containing little to no nutritional value was possibly the worst move of the campaign. At the time it was generous and pleasant. However, after weeks of promoting good health and small governemnt the explicit promotion of corporate sponsorship was an ill fated move, and the NY Times, who has supported your transformation and moderate stance on issues feels that we can no longer full endorse your candidacy. We, at the Times, do however feel these acusations can be quelled by a public explanation of why candy was dispersed when the former Governor promotes good health as a measure to keep health care affordable.
